Uncontrolled Crosswalk and Trail Crossing Safety: Webinar

Crosswalks are a vital link in the transportation infrastructure in a community. They are also the location where vulnerable pedestrians are exposed to moving traffic and danger. Unfortunately, over the last decade pedestrian fatalities/serious injuries have been increasing. This webinar will discuss the importance of studying a crosswalk before applying any markings or signs, to ensure they are compliant with PennDOT/National standards as well as the latest safety research. The webinar will also review common sign and pavement marking devices for crosswalks, as well as flashing lights and physical treatments. The webinar will focus on uncontrolled crosswalks—where there is no traffic signal or Stop/Yield sign controlling traffic. We will also discuss a similar approach to examine uncontrolled trail crossings.
