First Day Hike – Kings Gap

Begin your first day of 2026 by putting your best foot forward during this nationwide annual hike! Meet us at 8 am in the Kings Gap Hollow day use area, halfway up the mountain. The hike will be a relatively flat 2 miles involving roots and rocks on some parts of the trail and one steep hill.
In celebration of America 250, as we hike, you will learn about the history of the park, including a stop at a charcoal hearth to see firsthand what that area looks like and hear about what happened there over 100 years ago. Please wear bright orange and sturdy footwear. Snacks and water are also recommended. All are welcome!
