The Crash Course for Municipal Planning Members in Cumberland County
March 25 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
The Cumberland County Planning Department is pleased to invite you to the next installment of “Planning Commission University” (PCU)… The Crash Course for Municipal Planning Members in Cumberland County. Since its launch in 2011, PCU has trained over 200 citizen planners and captured the coveted “Planning Excellence Award for Public Outreach” from the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association.
PCU is a professional development opportunity tailored to the needs of municipal planning commission members. Citizen planners appointed to municipal planning commissions come from a variety of backgrounds and often do not receive basic training on the roles, responsibilities, and expectations of their new position. Similarly, experienced planning commission members may understand their basic duties, but do not have access to the tools and techniques that can transform their planning commission and make their participation more effective. This training will offer a balance with something for both levels of experience in an interactive format that we promise will be entertaining and informative.
We will examine the major planning documents of your municipality – the comprehensive plan, zoning ordinance, subdivision and land development ordinance and your role in review of land development plans. We also share pro tips for administration of the PC and how to have successful engagement with your municipal staff, elected officials and members of the public who may attend meetings.
Though the primary audience is for members of planning commissions, PCU registration is also open to municipal staff and elected officials as well as members of the public who wish to better understand the fundamentals of planning.
This training will take place at 310 Allen Road in Carlisle.
