Music on Bikes
Bikelisle | Music on Bikes | 1000
Bikelisle will use funds to take used bikes and turn them into cargo bikes that serve
educational purposes, including that many tasks can be done safely on a bike in the
local community, like transporting materials, food, and passengers. This project will
experiment with constructing several bakfiets style cargo bikes and several tall bikes.
Bakfiet cargo bikes are designed to have carrying capacity in the front for passengers or
cargo. Tall bikes are typically made from two bicycle frames that are stacked atop one
another, which makes the rider highly visible, and places them above automobile
bumpers when riding. When finished, we will be outfitting the cargo bikes with
instruments, the first being a drum kit made from repurposed materials. We are also
exploring adding a synthesizer as well as other items that can create music and add
spectacle to Bikelisle’s convivial rides. The bikes will also serve the purpose of showing
the community that many car-dependent tasks such as transportation of materials, food,
and passengers can be done safely on a cargo bike. These bikes are primarily being
constructed with discarded frames and will have their mechanics reinstalled at the
Carlisle Tool Library’s Bike Lab.
