Partners to host showcase running/hiking event

South Mountain Partnership partners the Central Pennsylvania Conservancy and the Susquehanna Appalachian Trail Club are hosting the 6th Annual Ironmaster’s Challenge on Sunday, April 26th. The Ironmaster’s Challenges is a highlight on the recreation calendar of many within the South Mountain landscape, as runners and hikers can choose from two options: a 50 k Ultra and a 15 k Challenge. Both showcase much of the natural beauty that defines the South Mountain landscape in spring – starting and ending in Pine Grove Furnace State Park and winding through the Michaux State Forest, runners and hikers will see pine-shaded trails, white quartz outcrops, gurgling mountain streams and green tunnels of mountain laurel and rhododendron groves.

A finish line picnic buffet, featuring beverages from the Roy Pitz Brewing Company will follow the conclusion of both races at the Ironmaster’s Mansion in Pine Grove Furnace State Park.
